چکیده
Conflict of Interest:No Introduction According to WHO published data, trauma continues to rank among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity throughout the globe, affecting people of all ages and income groups [1]. Among the various forms of trauma, facial trauma is noteworthy on account of its emotional, esthetical and functional influences on people's life and the possibility of permanent cosmetic deformities [2]. These fractures frequently result from scuffles, traffic accidents, sports, falls and industrial accidents with definite geographic differences. All reports apparently show a higher frequency in males aged 21-30 years [3]. Other contributing factors such as socioeconomic status, environment and alcohol use show greater variability.

Submental intubation: alternative short-term airway management in maxillofacial trauma
OBJECTIVES To assess submental route intubation as an alternative technique to a tracheostomy in the management of the airway in cranio-maxillofacial trauma, along with an assessment of its morbidity and complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS Submental intubation was performed in 17 patients who had maxillofacial panfacial trauma and management was done under general anesthesia during a period ...
متن کاملEvaluation of safety and usefulness of submental intubation in panfacial trauma surgery
OBJECTIVES Submental intubation has been advocated as an alternative to classical tracheostomy for certain indicated panfacial trauma surgeries. Surgeons should have various options for airway management in maxillofacial trauma patients. Most maxillofacial injuries involve occlusal derangements, which might require intraoperative occlusal corrections; hence, orotracheal intubation is not ideal....
متن کاملHeated Humidified High-Flow Nasal Cannula Versus Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure for the Facilitation of Extubation in Preterm Neonates with Respiratory Distress
Background: Heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HHHFNC) is gaining popularity as an alternative to nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) therapy in the management of preterm neonates with respiratory distress due to ease of administration and patient comfort. However, limited evidence is available addressing its risks and benefits. To study the efficacy and safety of HHHFNC i...

According to the Advanced Trauma Life Support recommendations for managing patients with life-threatening injuries, securing the airway is the first task of a primary caregiver. Airway management of patients with maxillofacial trauma is complex and crucial because it can dictate a patient's survival. Securing the airway of patients with maxillofacial trauma is often extremely difficult because ...
متن کاملSubmental Intubation in Complex Maxillofacial Trauma: An Overview
Management of Airway in patients with complex maxillofacial trauma is challenging due to disruption of components of upper airway. Submental intubation is a simple, quick and effective alternative to oral and nasal intubation or tracheostomy. This provides a secure airway and allows unimpeded surgical access to the oral cavity and midface, whilst avoiding the potential complications associated w...
